Happy #InternationalWomensDay, ladies! I’m so happy to be sharing this post to highlight some of my favorite upcoming female musicians: what better day to post than today? Below are a few of my favorite females I’ve been listening to lately. Enjoy and be sure to tell the fabulous women in your life how much they mean to you!
I have a handful of female musicians that I have written about more than once, so I tried to keep it fresh with some newer artists I’ve been listening to recently (but I have featured a couple these before – not to this extent). I love having the platform to write and share my interests because I know based on experience that these sorts of things can really help an artist out, and who doesn’t like free promo?
In alphabetical order:

Baum:
I’ve written about Baum before, but my love for continues to grow. She’s releasing some of the most feminist, bad-ass music right now – listen to her newest single “This Body” and I guarantee you will feel the self-love radiating out of yourself.

Bea Miller:
Bea was on The X-Factor back in the day – 2012 to be exact – and now she’s released two full length albums under Hollywood Records. She was flying under my radar since her stint on the X-Factor, but a song from her latest album, Aurora, appeared on my New Music Friday playlist. After hearing the entire album, I became a fan! She’s only 19 and has some super feminist, progressive songs like “S.L.U.T.” and totally seems wise beyond her years.

Liza Anne:
I’ve covered Liza before, but she’s seriously so great and talented I feel like I haven’t said enough. The irony of me posting this today is that her new album is out TOMORROW – what perfect timing! Her folk-rock sound is so refreshing and different than anything else I listen to.

Kailee Morgue:
Another talented youngster (19) making me feel talentless. Kailee’s electronic-infused pop music draws you in and gives the listener hopes that you can learn more about the singer behind the music, but she leaves you hanging with curiosity and intrigued. Oh, and she’s only 19.

Lizzo:
I’m really late on Lizzo – and it’s because, for the most part, I don’t really listen to rap music. But I do think she’s more of an R&B infused rap artist and her songs are SO about female empowerment and get me pumped up and super confident. I’ve been listening to “Truth Hurts” a lot recently!

Mitski:
After I was listening to artists who were featured in Red Bull Sound Select’s 30 Days in Chicago, I realized how much I enjoyed Mitski and was too late to grab tickets to see her show at Lincoln Hall (she sold it out). Now I get to see her open up for Lorde at her Melodrama World Tour Stop at Allstate Arena and I’m really looking forward to it!

Nïka:
I don’t know much about her, Nïka, but I do love her song “Real Fake Love” that a friend of mine shared with me. It’s a song I’ve listened to A LOT this week, and I’m really digging the vibe. She’s also from New Zealand – can we get her in touch with Lorde? Please?

Vita and The Woolf:
I’m kicking myself for not hearing VATW earlier, she actually opened up for Yoke Lore at his show at Schubas this past January! S/O Spotify for featuring her song “Mary” on my Discover Weekly Playlist this week, I’m hooked! I imagine her sound to be a combination of Florence & The Machine, Birdy and London Grammar.
Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed!
