It’s the most wonderful time of the year! And I’m not talking about the holiday season…I’m talking about Spotify Wrapped.
While I’m not sure how long Spotify has been compiling this data and letting its users access it at the end of every calendar year, I know that I’ve been able to see my data in this format since the end of 2016. For someone who is as interested in music as I am, seeing this data is so fascinating to me and the fact that Spotify continues to break it down in new and interesting ways every year is incredible. I hope you are able to take advantage of this feature if you have a Spotify account, and have fun checking out my own stats!
Number One Artist of 2019
Taylor Swift
Hours streaming: 56 hours
Top song: “Cruel Summer”
Thoughts on this: not surprising, considering she’s my artist of the decade as well.
Top Five Artists of 2019:
- Taylor Swift
- Carly Rae Jepsen
- Local Natives
- MUNA
- Vampire Weekend
Thoughts on this: I’m surprised how high Carly Rae Jepsen is, even though Dedicated is one of my favorites of the year. I guess I listened to it more than I realize. Not surprised with Taylor Swift, cause even though Lover isn’t even in my top 5 albums of the year, I listen to her releases on repeat for days when they come out. I would say that I expected Local Natives, MUNA, and Vampire Weekend to be featured. Also important to note that all of these artists released albums this year.
Taylor Swift, Lover – August 2019
Carly Rae Jepsen, Dedicated – May 2019
Local Natives, Violet Street – April 2019
MUNA, Saves The World – September 2019
Vampire Weekend, Father Of The Bride – May 2019

- “Why Didn’t You Stop Me?” – Mitski
Thoughts on this: every single one of these songs came out in 2019 minus TWO of them: “Bonfire” and “Why Didn’t You Stop Me?” which is funny. Out of the 100 most streamed, only 12 didn’t come out in 2019. 11 of the 18 songs on Lover were in my top 30 most streamed. Yes, I hate myself too (just kidding).
My most-streamed artist and song from 2011 through 2019:
Thoughts on this: I must have used Spotify WAY less often right when I created my account because the stats for 2011-2013 seem wonky (alright, not so much One Direction). Everything else seems incredibly accurate, and I find it funny that 2018 is the only year where the top artist also had the top song.
