For years, Carina Allen worked in proximity to the music industry. As a photographer, videographer and creative director for numerous artists, Allen found success working alongside musicians, but this year, she joined the ranks of the artists she’s worked with, releasing music of her own.
The singer, who goes by the name rlyblonde, released her first EP, Fantasy, earlier this year. Now, rlyblonde is back with her first release since releasing the five-track EP. The singer’s latest single, “Your Angel,” dropped today.
Like many great rock songs, “Your Angel” is a cathartic release of frustration and anger. The song features a strumming, lo-fi guitar, and it sounds so grunge-inspired, the tone of the song leads you to expect something gruff. You’re almost not expecting a voice as melodic and pretty as rlyblonde’s, but it doesn’t take away from the anger pulsating throughout the song.
The song’s brimming with anger that’s set forth with rlyblonde’s strong vocals, which is reminiscent of Kesha’s most recent album, Gag Order. While it might not be obvious from the outset of this alt-rock single, fans of the pop star can find plenty of similarities in rlyblonde.
Showcasing her many talents, Allen released “Your Angel” alongside an emotive, brooding visualizer, released by the singer’s production company, HOT CREATIVE.
“Your Angel” is available now on all streaming platforms, and the singer is performing a release show for the single alongside Um, Jennifer? and Debbie Dopamine at Brooklyn’s Gold Sounds Bar tonight.
