This past Thursday night, the intimate venue of Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn played host to a captivating showcase featuring two rising singer-songwriters, Sabrina Song and Georgia Gets By. The evening kicked off with Sabrina Song taking the stage, a vision with her guitar and a talented bassist and drummer in tow. With harmonies seamlessly woven into her performance via an accompanying track, it was easy to envision Sabrina leading a full band.
Sabrina’s voice, silky and soulful, resonated effortlessly, drawing comparisons to artists like Maggie Rogers and Clairo. Opening with her recent single “Okay, Okay,” she flawlessly transitioned into the catchy “Doors” before treating the audience to “To Know You.”
Song gave concert goers a sneak peek into her upcoming album, You Could Stay in One Spot and I’d Love you the Same which is set to come out June 7th. Song has impressively self-produced all of her music thus far, but the new album is a result of a collaboration between herself and Torna: known for his work with artists like Daisy the Great and Del Water Gap.
Charming and candid, Sabrina shared a personal anecdote about her cat’s pre-show antics, but any distraction melted away as she delved into her performance. A cover of Carole King’s “So Far Away” showcased her musical influences, and unreleased tracks like “Yellowstone” and “It Was Not a Beautiful Night” revealed her dynamic range, with a touch of ’90s vibes and Mitski-inspired nuances.
The set reached its crescendo with the crowd-pleaser “Strawberry,” leaving no doubt that Sabrina Song is destined for a remarkable musical journey. The night didn’t end there, as she teased her upcoming gig opening for Georgia Gets By in Los Angeles.
Georgia Gets By is the solo project of Georgia Notts, who is best known for her work in electronic duo BROODS. Launching into “Oh Lana,” the first track from her EP Fish Bird Baby Boy, Georgia enchanted the audience with the ethereal “Happiness Is An 8 Ball” and an unreleased gem, “Some Kind of Angel.” A Garbage cover, “#1 Crush,” showcased Georgia’s diverse influences, while the unreleased “Madeline” and recent single “So Free So Lonely” added depth to her set.
Georgia Gets By’s cinematic soundscapes were elevated by violin accompaniments in tracks like “Not Lost.” The set culminated with the titular track “Fish Bird Baby Boy.” For the encore, Georgia re-emerged solo, delivering the poignant “When All You Can Manage Is a Sigh” and a mesmerizing rendition of Tim Buckley’s “Song of the Siren” on her guitar.
With a promising future ahead, both Sabrina Song and Georgia Gets By have left an indelible mark on Baby’s All Right, setting the stage for their continued musical endeavors. Catch Georgia Gets By next at SXSW, where her sonic journey will continue to unfold.
