crêpe girl Embraces a New Sound on New EP ‘STARGAZING’

It’s not often that success in the culinary world leads to success in the music industry, but that’s exactly what happened for crêpe girl, a LA-based, French-American indie pop artist who just released her latest EP, STARGAZING.

crêpe girl is the stage name of singer-songwriter Eliza Grégoire, who was discovered when she was running a crepe stand while attending college in Denver. Grégoire was making crepes for the one and only Clairo and her backing band before one of the singer-songwriter’s concerts, when Canadian musician Mac DeMarco showed up at the crepe stand. Eventually, Grégoire was making crepes for DeMarco at a Red Rocks show, which ultimately gave Grégore an opportunity to share the music she was working on with various musicians.

STARGAZING, which dropped today, is crêpe girl’s third EP, after the aptly-named releases Le Début (2020), and Deux (2022).

The newly-released EP is a more electronic-inspired experimental step for Grégoire, whose first two releases consisted of moody acoustic-driven ballads, versus the energetic, buoyant pop-embracing tracks on STARGAZING, which seems to be a good fit for the singer.

One of the standouts of the EP is the exuberant track “DRUG,” a queer love ballad that crêpe girl created with Chilean/Norwegian producer bob junior. The song captures what it’s like to feel infatuated with someone, featuring ecstatic synths and Grégoire singing “You’re like a drug, and I just can′t fight it, try to quit it but I can′t. You got me drunk, got me feeling stupid, getting closer I’m about to lose it.”

To celebrate the EP release, crêpe girl announced a record release show at Gold Diggers in Los Angeles, where the singer will perform songs off of STARGAZING, alongside LA-based indie singer and songwriter Eileen Allway.
