Amy Allen’s Long-Awaited Debut Album Announced, New Single “darkside” Released

Amy Allen, the brilliant songwriter behind hits like “Espresso” and “Please Please Please” by Sabrina Carpenter, is stepping into the spotlight with the announcement of her long-awaited debut album, set to release on August 23, with the lead single, “darkside,” out now. Known for crafting pop magic for artists like Olivia Rodrigo, Harry Styles, King Princess, Lizzo, Charli XCX, and Leon Bridges, Allen has earned a steady spot on the Billboard Hot 100 Songwriters list and a nomination for the inaugural Songwriter of the Year GRAMMY.

However, her self-titled debut album reveals a very different sound that aligns her with today’s indie singer-songwriters, showcasing her impressive songwriting range.

Collaborating with renowned artists such as Tobias Jesso Jr. and Ethan Gruska, who has worked on multiple projects including Phoebe Bridger’s debut album Stranger in the Alps, Allen’s debut album promises to be a masterclass in versatile songwriting. The first single, “darkside,” written with Ethan Gruska, is a departure from the pop hits she’s known for, offering a beautiful, sweet, and confessional track that highlights her exceptional voice.

Just a week ago, Amy teased her fans on Instagram with a post featuring the lyrics of “darkside” written in colorful lettering, alongside a lyric video that includes personal footage of her sitting and playing her guitar, with handwriting in that same distinctive font. The heartfelt lyrics, “I would give my world to you / See the beauty and I see the truth / There’s even a darkside on a full moon,” are a testament to her emotive and honest songwriting.

Amy Allen’s debut is not just a new chapter in her career; it’s a revelation of the depth and breadth of her talent, poised to captivate both long-time fans and new listeners alike.

darkside” is out now.
