Georgia Nott, the New Zealand singer known from the acclaimed duo BROODS, has just released her latest single “Madeline” under her solo project Georgia Gets By. This captivating new track is available now through Luminelle Recordings and is accompanied by a stunning music video directed by Silken Weinberg, known for her work with Ethel Cain and Skullcrusher.
“Madeline” is a deeply soulful track that delves into the overwhelming emotions experienced when meeting someone who transforms your life. Georgia Nott describes the inspiration behind the song in a press release, saying, “Madeline is about the moment you meet someone that you know will change you. You feel it in the deepest place inside your stomach and become completely choice-less in your feelings for them.” The song builds to a powerful crescendo, flooding the listener with intense emotion and poignant reflection.
The music video for “Madeline” is a visual masterpiece, drawing inspiration from classic Hitchcock films, particularly “Spellbound.” Nott collaborated with Silken Weinberg to create a video that captures the drama in a way that is both playful and devastating. “We were watching a bunch of Hitchcock movies and became especially obsessed with ‘Spellbound.’ Inspired by the trailers for his films, and the way they are a window into a much bigger story, we wanted to make ‘Madeline’ into that window. Just a glimpse of a world where ‘Madeline’ could be anything from a ghost, an idea, or a hallucination. It’s really up to the viewer,” Nott explains.
The video begins with an old-fashioned title card bearing the quote, “Upon Sleepless Dreamers..a Cruel Sun Rises,” setting the stage for a black-and-white journey filled with intrigue and suspense. The visuals alternate between scenes of Georgia on a chaise lounge and shots of her in a silky dress against a dramatic backdrop. Actor Buck Andrews also features in the video, adding depth to the narrative. Title cards promise “A Tale of Intrigue…suspense…and betrayal,” making for an unforgettable visual experience.
The lyrics of “Madeline” reflect the song’s brooding and dramatic tone. They capture the essence of heartache and love in a way that is both raw and relatable:
“I’m dizzy and I’m cursed to never let you go, you’re breaking my heart, I love you for it though”
“Madeline” is a must-listen, blending emotional depth with visual artistry. Georgia Nott and Silken Weinberg have created a hauntingly beautiful piece that offers a cinematic experience through its music and visuals. Don’t miss out on this captivating release—be sure to check out “Madeline” and let its soulful melodies and striking imagery take you on a journey.
