Strawberry Launch Unveils Their Sophomore EP ‘Bad Luck’

Strawberry Launch, the dynamic female-fronted pop-rock band from NYC, has just released their highly anticipated sophomore EP, Bad Luck, today via Trash Casual Records. Described as a blend of MUNA’s modern pop sensibilities and The Cranberries’ ethereal rock vibes, Strawberry Launch brings a fresh, captivating sound to the indie music scene.

Following a successful fall tour in 2023 and a recent support tour with Small Crush, the band is ready to enchant listeners once again with their new release. With ‘Bad Luck’ as the focal track, this EP promises to be a poignant exploration of the highs and lows of young adulthood, perfectly encapsulating the band’s growth and evolving sound.

The EP opens with “Emily,” a mesmerizing track featuring looping synths and ethereal vocals that transport listeners to an otherworldly, berry-hued realm. Lead singer Riiza’s heartfelt ode to her older sister, inspired by a decade of long-distance phone calls, showcases the band’s ability to blend introspective lyrics with powerful instrumentation. The rich combination of sliding guitar, driving drums, and Riiza’s emotive vocals creates a vibrant fantasy world where self-doubt and unconditional love intertwine.

Next up is “Light Blue Sheets,” a quintessential summer love anthem celebrating the allure of captivating strangers in dimly lit clubs. “LBS is for the sexy, intimidating girls,” Riiza explains. The track’s pulsing synths, courtesy of Taylor Hurt, invite listeners to dive into the “sea of clowns” and dance with abandon. This song captures the whirlwind of inspiration that struck Riiza after encountering an artist’s magnetic presence at a show.

“Videos” takes a turn into the tumultuous world of social media, where past relationships linger as digital ghosts. The track’s front-and-center vocals and sharp guitar riffs erupt into a fiery tempest of emotion. Matrianna Gahol’s intricate guitar solo crescendos to a haunting scream from Riiza, culminating in a cathartic final chorus. “Videos” retells a familiar nightmare, urging listeners to rise above past betrayals.

“Ready Yet” delves into nostalgia, reflecting on a past self with poignant clarity. The track vividly captures the fear of growing up, painted with beautiful synthesizers and gut-punching vocals. Riiza’s genuine storytelling, paired with comforting guitar tones, reassures listeners that they are not alone in their struggles with growing up. This song serves as a gentle reminder that the fear of change is a shared human experience.

The EP concludes with the titular track, “Bad Luck,” a spirited embrace of life’s uncertainties. The whimsical chorus, swirling synths, and heavy guitar remind us to dance through adversity. “It’s just bad luck, just a bad deal, it’s just bad luck, just a bad year,” Riiza sings, encouraging listeners to keep moving forward despite the challenges.

Bad Luck by Strawberry Launch is a masterful tapestry of emotions and experiences, woven with intricate melodies and compelling narratives. Their signature sound, a blend of enchanting stories and warm instrumentation, truly sets them apart in the indie music scene.

Bad Luck is out now.
