For many people, working in the entertainment industry is a dream job. But Los Angeles-based singer, rapper, and songwriter Kilo Kish shows that it can be just as draining and burnout-inducing as any other job in her new single, “r3program.” The single was released today, alongside the announcement of a new EP, Negotiations, which will be released May 16.
The EP focuses in on what it takes to create in a digital-focused era, and also the
intense burnout that people can feel in a tech-focused age. Alongside the single, Kilo Kish also released a music video to go along with it that encapsulates the sentiments she’s singing about throughout the EP, showcasing the artist’s skill in film, as well as music, as she co-directed the music video with David Laven.
The music video for “r3program” features a dancer, and Kilo Kish herself, in a nearly abandoned and darkened office space, which captures a feeling of anxiety.
It goes well with the song, where Kilo Kish sings “I’m anxious and avoidant here, that is the worst one. But hey, I have my moments, just like a different kind of program. Wish I could just reprogram” during the song’s chorus.
The song is heavy into electronics, with ambient synths powering throughout
“r3program” and moody lyrics questioning “what’s real?”
Negotiations will be Kilo Kish’s sixth EP, and the first since the artist released her 2022 album, American Gurl.
