Your new queer anthem has landed just in time to round out the month. Australian alt-rock quintet, Worm Girlz have dropped their new single “Get Ugly,” A brash and aggressive protest song, “Get Ugly,” rejects the noxious beauty standards, that despite how far we’ve advanced socially, are still persistent and haunting.
One scroll of the targeted ads for NAD, GLP-1, red light therapy masks, and millions of other treatments and products is enough to make anyone go mad, especially when considering across the world, medical treatments necessary for women in need are at risk of being relinquished by archaic government officials.
Of the single, the band says: “‘Get Ugly’ is a queer anthem and while LGBTQIA+ rights are being threatened across the world, we felt compelled to shed the shame and unapologetically be loud and proud this pride month.”
As the chorus builds to the songs mission statement, “Pretty’s not all that I’ve want/ I don’t wanna stay small/ I wanna get ugly!” one thing is clear, Worm Girlz are not afraid to send a message.
“Get Ugly” is out now.
