King Princess Brings Chaos and Desire on “Girls” Ahead of New Album ‘Girl Violence’

King Princess is gearing up for the September 12 release of her third record Girl Violence, and her latest single “Girls” makes it clear she is not holding back. In between studio sessions, she has been running “Bazonga’s”, a series of intimate, often chaotic events in New York that have become a hub for queer community, live music, and general mischief. The gatherings were one of many parts of her world explored in a recent New Yorker profile by Holden Seidlitz, which also traced her journey from breakout hit “1950” through her literary influences, evolving artistry, and deepening roots in the queer community.

That profile also detailed her move away from Zelig Records, the label that released her first two albums, and into a new chapter with Section1. Her last album, Hold On Baby, arrived in 2022 to strong critical praise for its raw honesty and genre-blurring production. Since then, she has only released one song, a contribution to the show Arcane, which unexpectedly went viral on TikTok. The runaway popularity of that track kept her name buzzing, but Girl Violence will be her first major new body of work in two years, and it is already shaping up to be her boldest yet.

“Girls” dives straight into the murk of a toxic relationship, balancing sultry allure with underlying chaos. Her vocals are deliberately raspy, curling around a moody organ line that sets a smoky, late-night atmosphere. Behind her, harmonies echo with the romantic feel of 1950s pop ballads, adding a bittersweet sweetness to a song that is ultimately about unhealthy desire. “You keep trying to enter my head,” she warns in one of the track’s most cutting lines, a lyric that underscores both the vulnerability and the defiance at the heart of the song. The themes of violence and chaos in “Girls” make it a perfect preview of an album that wears Girl Violence as its title.

The single comes with another layer of community connection. Alongside its release, King Princess is partnering with women- and LGBTQ+-run tattoo shops around the world for a flash tattoo event. Proceeds from each shop will go toward local charities that support LGBTQ+ communities, reinforcing her commitment to using her platform to uplift others.

“Girls” follows two other singles from the upcoming album. “RIP KIP” arrived with a surreal, hyper-queer fever dream of a music video, placing King Princess in a strip club stand-off with a clown and cutting to shots of her dancing in front of a giant billboard. More recently, “Cry Cry Cry” showcased a different side of the record, leaning into lush, layered production with the help of longtime collaborators Nick Long, Logan Leland, Jake Portrait, Aire Atlantica, and Mike Malchicoff.

Now is the perfect time to catch up on all three singles and get ready for Girl Violence on September 12. And if you want what is sure to be a chaotic night, get your tickets for the Girl Violence Tour, which will feature Sasami, Spill Tab, and more special guests to be announced.
