iHeart Radio’s ALTer EGO Returns To LA This Weekend

iHeart Radio’s ALTer EGO concert returns to the Kia Forum this Saturday, January 17, following a year off due to the Los Angeles wildfires: a lineup that would have included major acts like The Lumineers, Glass Animals, St. Vincent, and others. Fast forward a year later and many Los Angeles communities are still in the midst of rebuilding, but we’ve definitely made progress as a city.

So after an unexpected hiatus, ALTer EGO is back at The Forum this Saturday, Jan. 17, boasting some of the biggest names in alternative rock. ALTer Ego, produced by iHeart Radio and ALT 98.7 FM, has become a large event at the start of every new year in Los Angeles, originating in 2018, which featured performances from artists like Mumford & Sons, Beck, The National, and others.

This year’s lineup features sets from Green Day, Twenty One Pilots, Cage The Elephant, Sublime, Good Charlotte, Gigi Perez, Mt. Joy, and Almost Monday. It’s also Good Charlotte’s first performance in Los Angeles in a decade, so it’s safe to say that rock and punk fans are in for a treat from top to bottom.

Mt. Joy was a recent add just a few days ago, replacing 27-year-old Myles Smith, most known for his 2024 breakout hit, “Stargazing.”

As someone who has a soft spot for rock and pop punk, ALTer EGO has been a concert series on my radar since I moved to Los Angeles in 2021. I’m particularly excited to see Green Day for the first time ever, catching a set from Cage The Elephant for the first time since 2017 (wow), and of course, a highly-anticipated set from Good Charlotte: their first performance in Los Angeles in ten years. I was pretty obsessed with Good Charlotte as a 10-year-old, and only saw them once in 2010 (I am really showing my age here) at the short-lived Bamboozle Road Show tour at Soldier Field: I said ‘hi’ to Joel Madden through a fence.

ALTer EGO does a great job at balancing contemporary rock and punk artists with some legacy acts: Twenty One Pilots is as big as ever, Gigi Perez is inching towards becoming the 200th most streamed artist in the world, and Mt. Joy and Almost Monday are successful touring acts with uber-dedicated fanbases.

The concert has been sold out for months now, but you can see resale tickets on Ticketmaster HERE. Additionally, you can check out ALT 98.7’s website for info on any potential ticket giveaways.
