Taylor Swift’s Craft Comes Back Into Focus On Lover

HELLO ALL!

Today I am sharing something that I have never attempted to do for my blog – nor have I ever attempted to do, ever. I’m sharing a YouTube video of myself! My good friend Nic and I had a little chat over the weekend analyzing Taylor Swift’s 7th studio album, Lover and had some wine to go along with the banter.

I thought it would be funny to see us interact with each other in a way that’s different than what we hear as a podcast (like we did when we discussed Maggie Rogers’ album earlier this year).

Whether you watch this intently or have it on in the background at work, I hope you watch and enjoy! I have no idea if it’s something I will do again but it was a fun thing to experiment with and I definitely pushed myself out of my comfort zone.

A couple things to note:

  • I naturally critique things I love because that means I care enough to give them my thoughts deeper than “I like this” or “I dislike this.”
  • I’ve had this album for a little over four days and my opinions on the songs will probably change. I could very well have a new favorite song in another 24 hours – i.e. I already like “Lover” more than I did when we recorded this video and it’s been 1.5 days since….
  • I prefer to listen to lyrics over production in any song and any genre. Nic is the opposite, which is why I think our conversation flows well. People have asked me what I look for in music and what it takes for me to like something, so that’s the priority for me in a song: what they are saying
  • Here is the song sorter Nic and I are referring to throughout the video
