“Nothing” – Catie Turner
Release date – March 25
You know those people on TikTok who solely post edits of their day in half second flashes? The ones where they’re posting about waking up at 5am, working out daily, eating healthily, being productive at work, and having a social life all at once? Yeah, you know the ones I’m talking about. The ones that make us want to get our own shit together until we never actually change. That’s exactly what I thought of when I heard American Idol alum Catie Turner’s newest single, “Nothing,” a song full of self-deprecating hypocrisy and our (seemingly) humanistic nature to express we want to change without ever actually following through (“If I want to be a stubborn bitch, that’s my prerogative”).
“Next Time” – JESSIA
Release date – March 25
Since we all know Taylor Swift is in a happy, long-term relationship (and possibly engaged), it’s time to find another artist who’s going to give us a breakup song that could stand up to the greatness that Swift has gifted us in the past. JESSIA, a young 20-something who’s been succeeding in the industry writing the toplines for major EDM songs, is back with her new single “Next Time,” a beautifully written, completely raw look at the downfall of a serious relationship and the toxicity of words. I have no idea who JESSIA’s ex is, but I hope she feels a lot better about the breakup by releasing this unbelievably powerful song.
“We’ll Never Have Sex” – Leith Ross
Release date – March 25
Here’s to another TikTok success story as a reminder that I’m aging out of social media’s target demographic!
Last summer, 23-year-old singer Leith Ross uploaded a draft of the song “We’ll Never Have Sex,” which officially dropped this past Friday. The original video was liked over one million times and over 33,000 videos were made to the unfinished snippet. Need I say more? Fast forward to 2022, and the artist, who hails from Manitoba, released the official version of the single and a video to accompany it.
Leith has been releasing music since 2020 and was just announced as support for Andy Shauf’s upcoming UK tour dates. Check out their music here.
