RAYE’s latest single, “WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!,” capitalizes on a viral Tiktok moment after releasing a teaser of the track on the platform a few weeks ago. “WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!” channels frustration and impatience in love. In the TikTok sound bite, taken from the bridge, RAYE sings of wanting an engagement ring: “I would like a ring, I would like a ring / I would like a diamond ring on my wedding finger / I would like a big and shiny diamond that I can wave around / And talk, and talk about it.”
As of writing, there are over 33 thousand videos made with the sound, comprising of a mix of marriage proposals, users bemoaning “singledom,” and promotional videos from RAYE herself. Prior to its release on September 19, Raye teased the song through posting videos of the track in various forms, including a live performance at the Lowlands festival, a video with raw vocals, and a behind-the-scenes production breakdown (she co-produced and co-wrote the track with Mike Sabath).
Sonically “WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!” fuses jazz, R&B, funk and pop, with
RAYE’s wide vocal ability and witty charm on full display. Raye sings of losing patience waiting for her one, her fear of dying alone, and, most amusingly, the “lonely acrobatics, unzipping [her] dress at 2 a.m.” The end of the track includes a cameo and confirmation from RAYE’s grandma: “Your husband is coming.”
“WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!” showcases Raye’s ability to successfully capitalize on a Tiktok viral sound and deliver an excellent track from start to finish. This is no easy task, especially when there are multiple examples where a short viral Tiktok sound overshadows the full song. An example of this is 2022’s “First Class” by Jack Harlow in which the song leaned heavily on its chorus (which included a sample from Fergie “Glamorous”) but did not hold its own lyrically as a full-length release.
“WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!” confirms RAYE as a multi-talented star on the rise, a new album to be announced, and a massive tour scheduled for 2026.
